Can you imagine a trip to a public bathroom filling your heart with Joy? Neither could I until very recently. It was a great lesson in being fully present in the moment. I was in one of two stalls when two other women came in. Normally, I’m in a hurry and not paying much attention to others in this situation. However, as soon as they came in I heard one woman say, “I’m dying to hear about your proposal!” Can’t ignore that, right? The second woman went on to describe the most beautiful, romantic story of how her beloved had proposed the night before. The love and joy in her voice was contagious.
When I came out of the stall, the bride to be was standing at the sink. I told her I couldn’t help but overhear, (it really was a small bathroom!), and I was so happy for her and her beloved. She looked at me with tears in her eyes and asked if I wanted to see her ring. Of course I did. It was incredibly beautiful with a sparkle I’ve rarely seen. I told her how beautiful her story was and wished her a wonderful life. She reached out and hugged me and was very appreciative. Then we both had tears in our eyes! At that moment, I felt the overwhelming, healing power of love. And I was so grateful I had not let the opportunity go by to connect with this young woman. I’m normally very shy with strangers, but in this moment i was swept away. The Divine took over and I took a chance on joy. It was an experience I will never forget. Turns out, Divine Love and Joy are always available to us. Even in public bathrooms! We just have to be fully Present.
